The fundamental factors of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran can be considered in matters such as the rejection of domination, independence and opposition to the Zionist regime. From this perspective, Iran's behaviors could be meaningful. Iran's support for Syria in the developments between 2011 and 2019 has been related to the principles of Iran's foreign policy. Although tactical changes have taken place, Iran's strategic orientation and attitude toward the Syrian crisis have not changed. The purpose of this study is to explain the relationship between Iran's relations with the Syrian government and its internal crisis. Iran's support for Syria can be analyzed in the context of national interests, including ideological interests, regional influence, confrontation with the US outside Iran's geographical boundaries, establishing a direct communication channel between Tehran and Damascus, reducing the influence of regional competitors, including Saudi Arabia.
